Teguise is geographically the largest borough in Lanzarote stretching from the east coast in Costa Teguise and extending right across the island to the north-west coast including Famara and almost as far as La Santa. For centuries Teguise itself was the capital of Lanzarote and therefore has a very colourful and interesting history with many cultural places worth visiting. It has been declared a town of architectural and artistic value. Every Sunday, Teguise plays host to a huge outdoor market located in the cobbled streets of the old town. The borough has a population of approximately 15,900.
