San Bartolomé is situated in the centre of the island of Lanzarote. Even though it is a small borough, its central location and good access to the resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, have made it one of the most densely populated with over 18,500 residents. San Bartolomé itself is a quiet and peaceful town with a rural history and has several cultural buildings of interest, including an agricultural museum and the Monumento del Campesino. The coastal town of Playa Honda is much busier with a modern shopping centre The Deiland Centre, several hypermarkets, furniture warehouses and second-hand car showrooms.
